Riyadh, June 24: As the holy month if Ramadan has entered its 29th day in some Middle Eastern countries while 28th day in some Asian countries on Saturday people have started looking for the moon. Muslims who ended their fast today evening in Malaysia, Indonesia have seen the moon of Shawwal which brings in Eid al-Fitr celebration after a one-month long wait. Some unconfirmed reports also suggest that the Eid moon was also seen in Singapore but there is no official confirmation on this.
In India, the moon was sighted in the coastal region of Kerala and Mangalore where Eid al-Fitr will be celebrarted tomorrow. Kerala Governer Justice P Sathasivam also confirmed the news about Eid al-Fitr celebration.
Saudi Arabia’ s official announcement on Eid moon is still awaited. Saudi Arabia and its government which is the custodian of two holy mosques of Islam, their confirmation is always awaited in the Middle East as well as the world.
Saudi Arabia and its neighbouring countries in the Middle East and Africa started observing Ramadan from May 27, while Asian countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh emraced Ramzan from May 28. In Saudi Arab, Muslims are observing their 29th day of fasting and if the moon is sighted today then the holy month of Ramadan will come to an end, and the country will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Sunday. If the crescent moon is seen in Saudi Arabia today, then Eid al-Fitr moon in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh will be seen on Sunday after which the Eid will be celebrated on Monday.
If Eid moon is sighted in Saudi Arabia today, then Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated in Qatar, UAE, Iran Yemen, Bahrain, Iraq, Syria, Turkey and Afghanistan. The North African countries like Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia and Lebanon are likely to search for the moon today.
The final confirmation on whether the Eid al-Fitr in Saudia Arabia will be made in few minutes from the Saudi Grand Mosque in Mecca.
